The jailbreak community is an interesting mix of people. At the top there are the security researchers who are able to pick apart the code in iOS and release the actual jailbreak tools. Then comes the low level developers, that end up maintaining key software for the community.
Developers then build modifications to the user experience that is often copied by Apple. Websites and forums come and go with a few catching on and hanging around for a while. Regular and power users often fuel the community with ideas about how they think a certain feature should or should not work.
All these things are a melting pot of different personalities and agendas, which can conflict to the detriment of the community as a whole. There have been times when the strain caused fractures that ended it all. An early example is when Cydia first starting becoming better than Rock.
IntelliBorn refused to work with Saurik even though he had the communities best interests at heart and was attracting more users. He saw what was happening on a larger picture and wanted to preserve what he could, so his company started to provide services the community needed. He is an unsung hero for his efforts in the early days.
Since then the world surrounding the jailbreak community has changed and so have the various moving parts that make up the belly of the beast. It grew in popularity around Asia almost out of nowhere, so much so that now the last few jailbreaks not including Yalu have all shipped out of China. This is around the time when the fractures that Saurik worked so hard to cauterize began to weaken. The strain was starting to take it’s toll. Cracks emerged and haven’t gone away.
Happening about once a month, it caused a lot of unnecessary hassle for some key people in the community. It's happening again and it’s creating an uncomfortable environment at best, and a completely toxic wasteland at worst.
Something has to be done to help bring back a friendly, helpful environment. The amount of collaboration and innovation that is possible when the modus isn’t dog-eat-dog is incalculable. It is up to all the individuals in in the community to stand up against the things that weaken us as a whole.
It's the classic trope of a fist being stronger than it's fingers. The reason it is often used as a symbol of unity is that it's accurate, smaller disenfranchised groups of people are a lot easier to control and exploit. When individuals are able to set aside their differences and work together laws can change and empires can topple.
